How would you describe Orbital Hotel to someone who might not know you? What kind of music do you play etc.

Our music explores diverse styles of music. We combine elements of hard rock, space rock, fuzz rock, noise rock and electro-pop rock with distorted and clean electric guitars, acoustic guitars, groovy bass, heavy drums and acoustic percussion. We like quiet songs as well.

We play together this type of music since 2014, but we played already before. We are from Vienna, Austria.

Band Members:

José Luis: Guitars, Synth, Drum machine, Vocals

Teo: Bass, Guitar, Synth

Tamer: Percussion, Drums

How did the band get started? How did you meet each other? And when did you originally decide to make a band, and your first record?

I met Teo in a rehearsal with other people, and later I met Tamer in an event where we eventually discussed music and made plans to jam with Teo. We immediately started playing own quiet melodies. Rock came later.

The first Orbital Hotel record titled "In Orbit" came out organically from Ideas I already had for acoustic and electric guitars. We include several of these tunes in our regular repertoire like Just Rumours, Room Control, Room Service, and Meanwhile. "It feels like nothing" is almost always included in quiet settings. Some of the recordings I find a bit raw, but they are the first intents of loud faster songs like Cambrian, Main Blow, Nested Loop, Escape Velocity and Check In. No Idea we now play mostly in pop version!

What are the similarities or differences between your first album and this new album "Missing Link"?

The music style and feeling is about the same I would say, but songs and riffs are harder and the songs are a little bit more complex.

Has your view on music or writing music changed?

Not really, the process and style is pretty much the same.

Do you feel more confident in your ability to write and perform music this time?

Yes, with the time things are more structured and the experience performing live is invaluable.

How was the writing process this time around?

I came home from a long trip where I had accumulated plenty of ideas. I reviewed them and chose the ones that were the most promising and I made the songs.

What inspired you this time, and when did you decide it was time for a new EP?

The opportunity of traveling gave me new ideas, everything I saw and experienced. Since I had enough material to work on, I decided it was a good time to make an EP with them.

What is the main theme(s) for this album?

Heavy riff Melodies interlaced with soft rock songs

What new things did you try with this album?

Several new things, for example in Magma I change the feeling of the song by accelerating the drums in several parts, in Molecular Cloud I came up with a chord progression where I try to keep the bass beat at the same time of playing spacy type guitar. In Wavefront I tried to make something that sounds bluesy but not really...

In my research I saw that you have made 13 albums; What keeps you inspired? How are you able to make so many albums in a little over 10 years?

Thanks for checking. In fact I have made more than that, I have 14 albums of quiet acoustic guitar (www.preza.org/jlguitarra), in total they are about 330 melodies published. I don't feel I get "inspired", but what actually happens is this: when I try to play something like doing some excersizes or playing a tune I have already made, new things come up and I just keep playing the new things.. Sometimes things come out quite ok and they go to the bucket list.

If you could only pick one "signature" song to represent this EP's sound, which one would you choose?

I like the intro of Missing Link...

What are your personal favorite songs from this EP and why?

Missing Link for the feeling it gives me the heavy riff and Molecular Cloud for its sweetness.

What has been your biggest experience as a band so far?

We had the opportunity to support for many years the European Researchers Night event in Vienna.

Do you have any goals or milestones for the band and your music?

To play in international festivals.

What are your plans for the future?

To continue creating music.

Any last words for your Danish fans?

Thanks for taking the time to read!

Thank you so much for taking time out of your busy schedule to answer my questions! I look forward to following you, and listening to more new music from you!
