ORBITAL HOTEL is a true phenomenon of the Viennese underground. For many years, the trio led by mastermind José Luis Preza has been releasing instrumental rock with influences from space rock, post-rock, and psychedelia with impressive regularity. "Missing Link" is already their thirteenth album.
Once again, Preza is responsible for all the compositions, giving the band his clear and unmistakable personal stamp. Across seven tracks, a relaxed and atmospherically dense instrumental rock unfolds, one that doesn't rely on virtuosity or outbursts, but rather on fluid movements and controlled dynamics.
Its conceptual basis is also interesting: the three musicians come from the IT and data management sector, which is reflected both in the cover art and in the song titles, which deal with biological, physical, and cosmic processes. It's no wonder they're called ORBITAL HOTEL! Sonically, it fits perfectly.
Tracks like 'Molecular Cloud' —undoubtedly one of the strongest tracks on the album— invite a calm, spherical journey in which floating guitar lines, warm bass, and restrained drums intertwine organically. Occasionally, subtle flashes emerge that recall Rush, without ever falling into imitation. 'Magma' also underscores this approach: less drama, but steady development and cosmic expansiveness. While it lacks a clear climax or a spectacular peak, that is precisely the strength of "Missing Link".
The album functions as a cohesive whole, can be listened to from start to finish without causing fatigue, and convinces with its craftsmanship precision and palpable sensitivity. A quiet but highly recommended insider tip for lovers of instrumental sonic journeys. (JJ)
